Reports, school and other inane discussions

by faffajane @ 08/07/06 - 13:44:18

YOungest child came home from school with his school report yesterday. On the whole it wasn't as bad as expected. Was interested to see that there have been no absences from school, yet according to my calendar he has had two days off where he was ill! Main gist of the report seems to be that he is immature (he is 7, an August child who got into school by the skin of his teeth) what progress he has made is only due to the fact that he is interested in a subject. if he isn't interested he just switches off and doesn't do any work or very little anyway. His teacher says, and I quote
"he is a lovely child with many friends who gets upset when his friends fall out and he often tries to keep them together, but is reduced to tears when they fall out with him! He is good with computers often helping others when they get into difficulties including me on occasion!"
Says a lot don't you think?

In fairness though this is the one teacher who has realised that my son is not trying as hard as he could and the his reading is very poor. She has said that she is surprised things were not picked up when he was in the infants, but as I pointed out he never had a teacher that stayed for more than a couple of months when he was in the infants school. This is the first year that he has had a teacher that stayed for the whole school year! Personally his reading is reasonable in that he often reads to us from books he has at home - I just think he finds the reading scheme in school boring hence the reason why he does not read at all well in school.

He is completely different to my other child who is very studious. I know you rarely get two children the same, but it would be nice if youngest child was as enthusiastic about school and work as the eldest one is. youngest seems to treat school as his personal social club where boring lessons just get in the way!

On a slightly different note, let feels better today, still tender and I am still not walking properly but foot is flat on the floor now when I do walk. Aches a little now I am home but mainly because I went to the shops earlier which DH dragged me round. Hopefully will be fit enough to go to work on Monday.

Oh well enough ramblings!
