  • The Fox and the deer

"Quick mum, come here" Whispered son loudly from the landing.

Climbing the stairs to see what he is gawping at, my gaze follows the pointed finger to watch the fox walk around the field looking for something to eat. He plays amongst the scrub near the fence for a while, then rolls over on his back kicking his legs in the air and gets up to chase his tail.

    Suddenly he stops and stares.

He crouches down low, he has spotted something and watches it eagerly.

Son points into the distance where I notice a young deer cautiously entering the field from the woods. She looks around and proceeds forward sniffing the ground, not having spotted the fox, or at least if she has she is ignoring it.

She moves closer towards the fence and the fox crouches lower, watching closely.

"Will he hurt her?" son asks.

I shake my head hoping I am right that he will not pounce - do foxes attact deer?

We watch them closly following the deers progress forward, nose to the ground, when suddenly she spots the fox and freezes, staring at him, he at her.

The fox slowly moves forward, none of us realise we are holding our breath, all of us wanting to bang on the window and shout, disturbing the ambience of the moment, but we are frozen to the spot, glued to the scene before us.

The fox moves towards the deer, sniffs her and the deer bends her head and licks the fox, almost like someone greeting a long lost friend. They walk around the field together for a few minutes, both lost in a world of their own, heading back towards the woods, and we sigh in relief and ahhh over the kindness of nature.

Later on, spot a woodpecker in a tree, just sitting there watching the field as though it was expecting something to happen soon.

Spring is arriving and all is right with the world:)

  • Love in a mental hospital

    LOVE IN A MENTAL HOSPITAL

Just because someone doesn't love you the way you want them to, doesn't mean they don't love you with all they have. Jim and Edna were both patients in a mental hospital. One day while they were walking past the hospital swimming pool, Jim suddenly jumped into the deep end. He sank to the bottom of the pool and stayed there. Edna promptly jumped in to save him. She swam to the bottom and pulled Jim out.

When the Head Nurse Director became aware of Edna's heroic act, she immediately ordered her to be discharged from the hospital as she now considered her to be mentally stable. When she went to tell Edna the news she said, "Edna, I have good news and bad news. The good news is you're being discharged. Since you were able to rationally respond to a crisis by jumping in and saving the life of another patient, I have concluded that your act displays that you have a sound mind. The bad news is that Jim, the patient you saved, hung himself in the bathroom with his bathrobe belt right after you saved him. I am so sorry, but
    he's dead."

Edna replied, "He didn't hang himself, I put him there to dry. How soon can I go home?"
