I have a slight imbalance.
I have a slight hearing problem in one ear. My hips and pelvis are out of alignment (something which wasn't discovered until I had my children) and the base of my spine often comes out of alignment as well.
I favour one side more than the other, something which is quite common and doesn't really cause any problems, unless you need to do something and find that you cannot balance properly, like when riding a bike.
So yesterday, after the usual shopping trip extended because I had a Governors meeting to go to first thing in the morning, we headed off to Bedford to try and get my son some shoes to go with his suit for the wedding next week (OMG he is now in a size 8 shoe!!!). Afterwards, and after a lot of discussion, we popped into Toys r us that demon shop for children, the worst shop in the entire world, to see is we could buy some tennis balls for the dogs to chase, when hubby decided to try out some of the bikes there and measure Richard on one or two as he has outgrown his one. Now bless him like his mother, bike riding is one thing that is still eluding him. Yes I admit, I am 41 years of age and I have fallen off more bikes than I have ever ridden, and in fact I don't remember ever riding a bike that didn't have stabilisers on it! Balancing was definately a problem and so I never rode a bike. But Richard has been begging to be taught and he has outgrown his bike (with stabilisers), and the other one of Simons that we had kept is just slightly two big. However I know that if we get the size in between, then that will only last him this year so it will be a waste of money.
Anyway Simon then mentions about going here which is a great place to cycle round as a family, until Nig pointed out to him that as a family it wouldn't be a good idea as I couldn't ride a bike.
He was undeterred by this. When we got home he got out his bike (now too small for him) and started to instruct me to ride it, making sure he was with me all the time in case I should fall - no problem about that afterall I can only find one pedal, couldn't find the other one when I pushed off!
So we took the bike down to the green at the bottom of our road (I really hope the neighbours didn't see this) and started over again with him telling me to remember how I have to do pilates to get balanced and trying to get me to pedal in a straight line (hey I can't pedal yet!!)
An hour later I mastered the art of riding a bike and like a pro I was riding up and down that pathway with Simon running behind me in case I should topple and fall! It was great!
Of course then he had to rescue his father from teaching Richard how to ride his bike which is slightly too big for him, as Nig was getting bad tempered and not helping matters, Richard was in tears as he had fallen off a couple of times (bless him) and Simon then had to try and help his brother now that he knew I would be ok.
Finally came back home at around 10 last night, stretched out all those aching muscles that I didn't know existed and feeling rather pleased with myself, went to bed with a smile on my face.
But oh, this morning I can barely move! There is not a muscle that doesn't hurt, even my shoulders and arms are hurting and my legs ouch!!!!!!!!!!!
Can't wait till they come home from work though so I can go out again - just hope the rain holds off!
41 years of age and Faffajane learns how to ride a bike - there is hope for me yet lol!!!!1
