Anyone know what to do?

by faffajane @ 09/08/07 - 17:31:29

Just wondering if any one out there can give a little advice.

Had an email from my mum earlier.

I am trying to compose a letter to the council, the shared pathway has been dug up and replaced by concrete, which is an absolute eyesore. I was not consulted about this nor was I informed that the work was to be carired out. As the Watling Estate is now a designated conservation area I am surprised that the Local Authority has sanctioned maintenance with inappropriate materials. Do you know of a legal eagle that can advise?

She owns her own house but has a shared pathway with the council tenant next door. The pathway originally was tarmaced. Anyone have any idea if she has any recourse on this or not please?

Many thanks xx

She can get advice from a solicitor for £5, alternative is the CAB (citizen's advice bureau) I think she has a case, but good to word the letter strongly with metion of solicitor etc,....

Hope it helps

:)

Thanks.

As it is, i forgot Nig knows someone who works in the council offices so he phoned him up yesterday for advice and we have passed the info onto him mum from him.

Thanks:)

I agree completly with Teri_R she should have been consulted and as it is a shared path her opinion should have been considered.

Most councils have a form for making official complaints. CAB may be able to do this for your mum. Good luck

Although I work for a local authority they do make me see red at times.

Hubby is on the case, he knows someone in the council offices, a friend of his so he phoned him yesterday and he gave us some advice as well as looking into it from his end.

thanksxx

She has common ownership over the path from what you say. If someone has dug it up and replaced it without consulting her, I'd think she had a case for a pretty good fist shaking session! LOL

I agree with Teri and Craftycards - CAB is always a good starting point. Before she goes though I'd suggest it might be a good idea to think about what resolution she wants to achieve. Complaining for the sake of it is a bit pointless after all. Maybe she wants the path restored, or restitution. I'd get her to think about her objective - what she wants to work towards. Sounds fun anyway! :-D

Apparently the work that has been done is an eyesore, not been done properly and as mum isn't too good on her feet and looks after her mother then she is worried about it. However we think we have found a soloution, Nig knows someone who works in the council offices so he has asked him for advice. Mum has done a letter and we know who we have to complain to in person as well. Friend will take up the case.

Thanksxx
