Harriet, the hedgehog, is our newly acquired pet.
Currently she is snuggled up in her box after a very busy morning, where she has been pulled about and had maggots pulled off her back to make her feel better and more comfortable.
Yes the hedgehog survived the night and early this morning hubby phoned the hedgehog hospital in Caddington (thanks Louise) and we took her up there to meet Angela who examined her and treated her.
She seemed surprised when we said we would take her back home to look after her, well the poor woman is looking after quite a few hedgehogs at the moment, so armed with equipment she has leant us, and other information to help us look after the hedgehog, she sent us on our way.
We have promised to keep in touch with updates.
So Harriet, is about 2 weeks old and was probably in the pond for 36 hours - strange as hubby checks the pond everyday but she must have got caught in some pond weed which is why she wasn't noticed sooner. to put her back in the wild now would kill her, the mother would not want to know as she has been away from the nest for too long and she wouldn't survive te winter. So we are attempting to get little Harriet to eat some pureed cat food with weetabix, and drink water. she has to be checked for maggots in her skin every few hours because these can do damage and as they burrow they are fiddly little blighters. She got a lot out at the hospital but we have to keep checking just in case.
At the moment she is sleeping in her towel that will have to be changed in a moment.
Haven't managed to get a photo of her just yet, but will post one the minute I do.
