  • The last word on Harriet

Nigel and Simon have been tidying up the front garden and doing some general maintenance to the pond. Behind the pond, where there is a lot of debris, they have found another baby hedgehog, unfortunately it is dead, and obviously has been caught by something. Looks like the nest was definately disturbed then. so the pair of them are now on hands and knees, looking under shrubbery and behind the garage to see if they can see anymore. The plan is to put some food out later and to see if they can find an adult hedgehog, in the hope the mother hasn't abandoned any more babies, or that the nest hasn't been disturbed too much. it isn't looking good, but hubby is determined make sure that if there are anymore they won't die. I am going offline for the evening now, need to get some sleep. Hugs to you all:)

  • Oranges - warning adult content

Lulu was a prostitute, but she didn't want her grandma to know. One day, the police raided the brothel and took all the girls outside and made them line up. Suddenly, Lulu's grandma came by. Grandma asked, "Why are you standing in line here, dear?" Not willing to let her grandma know the truth, Lulu told her that the police were passing out free oranges and she was just lining up for some. "Why, that's awfully nice of them. I think I'll get some for myself," Grandma said, and she proceeded to the back of the line. A policeman was going down the line asking for information from all the prostitutes. When he got to grandma, he was bewildered and exclaimed, "Wow, still going at it at your age? How do you do it old girl?" Grandma replied, "Oh, it's easy, dear. I just take my dentures out, rip the skin back and suck 'em' dry." The policeman fainted.

  • Sunday, Sunday

We popped back to the hedgehog hospital to return everything that we had borrowed from them. The kids came with us and the owner showed us all the hedgehogs currently in her care.

I have always had a thing about hedgehogs and we think we have discovered the run that they use in the our garden. There is a possibility that once the mother hedgehog goes into hibernation the baby ones will have to fend for themselves and because there is not enough time for them to get to the weight they need to be before they are due to hibernate, we will be on the lookout for them to overwinter them.

I have always loved the idea of having a walled garden area. We have a small garden, but at the bottom the grass doesn't grow so over the last couple of weeks have been thinking of walling it off and using it as an area to grow herbs and vegetables in pots maybe. I want a wild garden there as well, somewhere to encourage wildlife to go, and following this weekends fun, we have seriously thought about having a 'safe' walled area to home a hedgehog that can no longer be put in the wild. Hubby is quite keen on this and is now planning away, so something good has come of this all anyway:)

Right off to have a well earned glass of wine now, and to look at doing some ironing

  • Harriet update

Today is not a good day. Harriet passed away late yesterday evening. we have been blaming ourselves of course, but in reality we did the best we could have done. This morning we are all feeling a little low, but it will not put us off. If we can help an animal in need we will do. In the meantime we are going to offer our help to the local hedgehog hospital and make a donation or two. Thank you to everyone who have been supporting us with your kind words, sorry if I didn't get to the last few comments we have had a lot to do. Hubby is now digging a hole to bury her in, children want to say a few prayers. I know we are mad but we do it for all our animals. In the meantime here are a couple of photos taken during the afternoon as we were getting the maggots of her. SS850495SS850496 RIP Harriet
